Counting in Thai, a good place to start and I predict easier than you expect
1 หนึ่ง nung, the name of my cat, he is one coloured
2 สอง sɔɔng, like a song but with a longer "O"
3 สาม saam, like your friend Sam but with a longer "A"
4 สี่ sii, same as yes in Italian or Spanish
5 ห้า haa, like laughing 555 hahaha
6 หก hok, a soft "k"
7 เจ็ด jed, yes just like a jet but a soft "d"
8 เเปด bpεεt, pronunciation between bed and bad
9 เก้า gaao
10 สิบ zip, like a zipper on your trousers or skirt
11 สิบเอ็ด zip-ed is 10 plus an ad on word ed, this is the addition to all multiple of 10 plus one. So 21, 31, 41 etc.
20 is ยี่สิบ yeezip, this is an exception, the rest follow logically
Now I would like to show you how easy and logical the rest of the numbers are
12 would be 10+2 สิบ สอง, 13 สิบ สาม, 14 สิบ สี่ and so on 19 สิบ เก้า
20 is ยี่สิบ yeezip, this is an exception
30 สามสิบ is 3 + 10 saamzip, 40 สี่สิบ 4 + 10 siizip, 50 ห้าสิบ 5 + 10 haazip etc till 90 เก้า สิบ
So 33 would be สามสิบ สาม saamzip saam, 68 หกสิบ เเปด hokzip bpεεt
100 หนึ่ง ร้อย nung rɔɔy like the name Roy but a rising tone. 200 สอง ร้อย sɔɔng rɔɔy, and so on.
457 สี่ ร้อย ห้าสิบ เจ็ด sii rɔɔy haazip jet. So you just build the numbers together.
1,000 หนึ่ง พัน nung pan, like a frying pan
Now, in Thai "ten thousand" and "hundred thousand" have their own specific words
10,000 หนึ่ง หมืน nung meuhn, a bit difficult to pronounce, 40,000 สี่ หมืน sii meuhn
100,000 หนึ่ง เเสน nung saen, then 1 million is หนึ่ง ล้าน nung laan, 20 Million ยี่สิบ ล้าน
I really do recommend trying to learn the Thai script, dont try and remember the letters, remember the words like pictures. The pronunciation is in the Thai script. In the western script there are only similar sounds so I have included phonetics to build the approximate sound.
Here is an excellent way to memorise words, numbers. Practice 10 or 15 minutes a day, its fun.
